Ways to open IMS files
Open Imaris IMS files (Bitplane, now Oxford Instruments) in SlideScope on Windows or macOS without converting them. Channels open with the colours and display ranges saved in the file, focal planes are in µm and time points in seconds, and compressed IMS files open too. SlideScope reads the full-resolution level of the file. Local viewing does not upload the image.

When SlideScope is the practical choice
- IMS for Imaris/Bitplane multi-channel imaging files
- Reviewers need a desktop interface without scripting or plugin setup.
- Step through channels, Z planes, time points and scenes where the file has them, check the pixel size in Details, and measure in calibrated units.
- Measurements, notes and regions stay attached to the slide and export as GeoJSON or CSV.
Choose by workflow
Evaluate SlideScope when you need one desktop app that opens mixed microscopy files and quantifies standard objects on your own machine. Keep the original tool when you need microscope control, programmable image processing, scripted analysis pipelines, or institutional image management.
Fiji/ImageJ, QuPath, napari, CellProfiler: Extensible processing, macros, plugins, scripting, segmentation, batch measurement pipelines, pathology analysis, and scientific Python workflows.
OMERO: Centralized image repositories, permissions, collaboration, and institutional data management.
